Women’s Health & Menopause Care in Hong Kong: Why Having the Right GP Matters
Member Spotlight: Dr. Laurena Law - Women’s Health GP & Menopause Advocate in Hong Kong
At Pherform, we’re big on strength but we’re just as serious about the support systems that help women feel strong everywhere else in life, too. That’s why we’re proud to highlight one of our members, Dr. Laurena Law, a General Practitioner (GP) in Hong Kong with a dedicated focus on women’s health and menopause care.
Why having a Women’s Health GP matters
Menopause (and perimenopause) isn’t “just hot flushes.” It can show up as sleep disruption, mood changes, joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, shifting body composition, and more. Far too many women are still dismissed or misdiagnosed along the way. Dr. Laurena regularly speaks about the importance of recognising symptoms early, taking a thorough history, and ensuring women feel empowered to advocate for evidence-based care.
What adds to the significance in Hong Kong is that general practitioners with a focus on women's health and menopause are still relatively uncommon, even though there is a considerable demand for such expertise among women.
Access to general practitioners (GPs) is important, as many women can consult a GP through insurance without requiring a specialist referral. This can help alleviate a significant barrier for those seeking timely care. It is important you ask your GP prior to the appointment on their focus and understanding towards Women's Health and menopause care. It's essential to note that insurance rules can vary by provider and plan.
A whole-person approach (that aligns with how we train)
Dr. Laurena’s work sits at the intersection of women’s health, lifestyle medicine, and menopause care looking beyond quick fixes and helping women understand what’s happening in their bodies, what options exist, and what support can actually improve quality of life.
She’s also a powerful example of “walk the talk”: she has an athletic background and speaks openly about the role of resistance training in midlife and beyond; a message we live by at Pherform.
Building something bigger: The Hong Kong Menopause Society
What we love most is that Dr. Laurena isn’t just supporting patients one-by-one; she’s working to raise the standard of menopause understanding across the city.
She recently announced plans to launch Hong Kong’s first Menopause Society, aiming to provide up-to-date, evidence-based resources and build a community that supports not only women, but also allies who want to better understand this life stage. (more information on the launch to come)
That kind of leadership matters. Because when menopause is better understood, in healthcare settings, at home, and in workplaces, women get better care, earlier support, and a far better chance of thriving through midlife rather than simply “pushing through.”
Why we’re proud she’s part of Pherform
Pherform is more than training sessions; it’s a community of women who value performance, longevity, and taking ownership of their health. Having someone like Dr. Laurena inside our community reinforces what we stand for: women deserve informed, respectful, evidence-based care especially during menopause.
If you’ve ever felt unheard, confused by symptoms, or unsure where to start, we hope this spotlight is a reminder: the right support exists and we’re lucky to have it right here in our Pherform family.
